PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a small and inexpensive acceleration detecting element having simple structure which can be mounted conveniently and quickly onto a mounting board by taking out charges, generated depending on the acceleration in the direction orthogonal to the plate thickness of a planar piezoelectric, from an electrode. SOLUTION: The acceleration detecting element 10 comprises a planar piezoelectric 11 polarized in the (P) direction orthogonal to the plate thickness, and detection electrodes 12, 13 provided on the upper and lower surface thereof, wherein a shearing strain is generated in the piezoelectric 11 by an external force directed orthogonally to the plate thickness. The detecting element 10 is mounted fixedly on a mounting board 20 by connecting the detection electrode 13 to a plus electrode through conductive adhesive and the end face of the detection electrode 13 is coated with insulating adhesive 19 between the end face on the detecting element 10 side and the mounting board 20. Subsequently, the fixing face 14a of a weight 14 is secured to the detection electrode 12 through adhesive, the signal take-out electrode 15 on the side face 14b is connected with the detection electrode 12 and secured to the minus electrode 22 of the mounting board 20 through solder 18. When an acceleration is detected, the signal of a voltage generated between the detection electrodes 12, 13 depending on the shearing stress of the piezoelectric 11 is taken out from the signal take-out electrode 15.
