PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical recording medium with which the signal reproduction by magnetic domain magnification is possible by transferring the respective magnetic domains of a recording layer to a reproducing layer with high resolution. SOLUTION: The magneto-optical recording medium 10 has a substrate 1, a ground surface layer 2, the reproducing layer 3, a nonmagnetic layer 4, a first mask layer 5, a second mask layer 6, a third mask layer 7, the recording layer 8 and a protective layer 9. The first mask layer 5 is a perpendicularly magnetized film at room temperature which changes to an intra-surface magnetized film at a temperature T2. The magnetization of the second mask layer 6 disappears at the temperature T2 or above and the third mask layer 7 is the intra-surface magnetized film at room temperature and changes to the perpendicularly magnetized film at a temperature T1 lower than the temperature T2. Consequently, the magnetic domains of the recording layer 8 existing within the range from the temperature T1 to T2 are transferred by exchange bonding to the third mask layer 7, the second mask layer 6 and the first mask layer 5, are transferred from the first mask layer 5 to the reproducing layer 3 by magnetostatic bonding through the nonmagnetic layer 4, and are magnified and detected by the alternating magnetic fields impressed from outside.
