LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT AND ITS MANUFACTURE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element which is capable of lowering hysteresis and having high contrast, excellent display quality and driving voltage which does not increase. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display element 1 has a polymer-liquid crystal composite layer 10 consisting of liquid crystal drops dispersed in a polymer material disposed between a pair of substrates 11 and 12. One of the substrates 11 and 12 has plural regions having UV transmittances different each in one pixel region and the polymer-liquid crystal composite layer 10 formed by irradiation with UV through the substrates has, in one pixel, plural regions in which average particle sizes d1 and d2 of the liquid crystal drops in a direction parallel to the substrates 11 and 12 are different each and applied voltage-light transmittance properties are also different each.
