PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with a uniform display, high contrast and excellent display quality while forming a liquid crystal layer of uniform thickness. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises a pair of substrates 1a, 1b placed opposite to each other and equipped with electrodes 2a, 2b for display pixels, insulation lauders 17a, 17b and liquid crystal alignment layers 3a, 3b, a liquid crystal layer 6 with nearly uniform thickness paced between the substrates and spacers 14 to form the nearly uniform liquid crystal layer in the liquid crystal layer. The spacers with electrical conductivity in themselves or on their surfaces and the liquid crystal display device using the same are claimed.
