PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a serial printer which can print at a speed higher than conventional ones by promptly processing characters, and a recording medium in which a program for controlling a printer is recorded. SOLUTION: At least either reading characters or writing characters is batch processed for every plurality of bytes, thereby reducing the number of times of data accessing to a character generator and an image buffer to half or less in the prior art. A developing process time can thus be shortened greatly. Since the batch processing is carried out by the number of bytes equal to a greatest common measure of a bus line width of a CPU and a size of characters, the efficient batch processing of a maximum data size is realized.
