PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flexible coupling simple in structure and free to directly install on a general segment and a work execution method of a shield tunnel using this flexible coupling. SOLUTION: This flexible coupling 10 is to be clamped and fixed between rings of a pair of segments 12, 12' and includes an outside ring 14 made of a rubber type elastic body and an inside ring 16 installed on its inner peripheral surface side. This flexible coupling 10 is furnished with a space part made of a groove of the outside ring 14 and a groove of the inside ring 16.
