A method of operating a capacitive actuator, especially a piezoelectrically driven fuel-injection valve, having a given energy amount (Ev) associated with a given working stroke (sv) of the valve, in which during a fuel-injection event, the actuator (P) carries out an idle stroke (sL) prior to actuating the valve. An energy amount (E) is supplied to the actuator (P) during an operating process and corresponds to the sum E = Ev + EL, from the energy amount Ev required for the given working stroke (sv) of the valve, and from an energy amount EL required for carrying out the idle stroke (sL). |
