PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp that has achieved a long life by preventing thermal oxidation of the terminal disk part and metal foil. SOLUTION: A groove 2d is formed at the terminal shaft part 2c. Hence, the amount of heat conducted from the terminal shaft part 2c to the terminal disk part 2b and to the metal foil 3 welded to this terminal disk part 2b is reduced when the terminal shaft part 2c and the lead wire 1 are welded. Thereby, thermal oxidation of the terminal disk part 2b and the metal foil 3 can be prevented. Further, by reducing the work time for welding the terminal shaft part cd and the lead wire 1, the thermal oxidation of the terminal disk part 2b and the metal foil 3 can be prevented.
