PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator which can prevent the drain outlet of a water receiving pan from freezing, does not consume much electric power, and can surely and efficiently thaw and defrost the water receiving pan. SOLUTION: The refrigerator is provided with an evaporator 6 which generates cold air, a supply fan 7 which sends out the cold air generated from the evaporator 6, the water receiving pan 8 which is positioned below the evaporator 6 and has the rain outlet for recovering and discharging defrosted water on the backside in a heat insulating box body 1, and a compressor 10 which supplies a refrigerant to the evaporator 5 below the back of the box body 1. The refrigerator performs defrosting operation when the conducting time to the compressor 10 exceeds a prescribed period of time. In the refrigerator, a heating means 8a which defrosts and thaws the drain outlet of the water receiving pan 8 and a temperature detecting means 8b which detects the temperature of the pan 8 are installed to the pan 8. When the temperature of pan 8 detected by means of the detecting means 8b is lower than a prescribed value during the defrosting operation, the heating means 8a is heated.
