PURPOSE: A method for collecting and analyzing a contents usage using packet monitoring and a device thereof are provided to install a collector, located on a LAN(Local Area Network) identically to a service server and monitoring packets transmitted between a client and a server, so as to support all protocols necessary for an Internet service, prevent a bottleneck phenomenon and integrally operate several servers. CONSTITUTION: If a thread runs for the monitoring of registered service servers(S51), a collector captures a packet in a data link layer between a client and the servers(S52). The collector sequentially extracts an Ethernet header and an IP(Information Provider) header from the packet(S53,S54), to check whether a source IP or a destination IP is a service server(S55). If not, the step of S52 is returned, and if so, the collector extracts a TCP(Transmission Control Protocol) header(S56) to recheck whether a source port or a destination port is a service server(S57). If not, the step of S52 is returned, and if so, the collector rechecks whether the destination IP/port is a service port(S58). If the destination IP/port is a service port, the collector decides whether the service server is a Web server, that is, an HTTP(HyperText Transfer Protocol) server(S59). If the service server is a Web server, information on an HTTP server usage is collected and analyzed to monitor the usage of the Web server(S60). If the service server is not a Web server but a general server such as a game, chatting or a streaming server, information on the general server is collected and analyzed to monitor the usage of the general server(S61) for data establishment.
