PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning medium for a magnetic recording device having high cleaning power for a magnetic head without a scratch on the magnetic head and little wear of the head. SOLUTION: The cleaning medium for a magnetic recording device has a lower coating layer mainly containing nonmagnetic inorganic powder and a binder applied on a nonmagnetic supporting body and has a cleaning layer containing at least inorganic powder of ferromagnetic powder and a binder formed thereon. The binder used for the lower coating layer consists of a polyurethane resin as the reaction product from polyols and organic diisocyanates as the main source material. As for the polyol component, the polyurethane resin contains a short-chain diol component having a cyclic structure by 15 to 40 m.%, a long-chain polyether polyol component by 10 to 50 m.% and a polar group-containing long-chain polyol component having 500 to 5,000 molecular mass.
