PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an ethylenic polymer in a high catalyst activity. SOLUTION: This method for producing an ethylenic polymer comprises polymerizing or copolymerizing ethylene in the presence of a catalyst system which comprises an organic aluminum compound, a >=4C olefin, and a solid catalyst obtained by the reaction of (i) at least one member selected from metal magnesium and a hydroxylated organic compound, an oxygen-containing organic compound of magnesium, and a halogen-containing compound of magnesium, (ii) a homogeneous solution containing at least one oxygen-containing organic compound of titanium, and (iii) at least one halogenated organic aluminum compound.
