PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an aromatic polycarbonate having excellent hue and heat resistance at a large polymerization rate. SOLUTION: This method for producing an aromatic polycarbonate, comprising subjecting an aromatic dihydroxy compound and a carbonate diester as raw materials to an ester interchange method, is characterized by using a terminal-sealing agent having one to eighteen aromatic dihydroxy units and having a hydrocarbon group at the terminal.
