PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the collapse of a gravestone in case an earthquake occurs. SOLUTION: A gravestone collapse prevention device is so constituted that a plurality of shock absorbing means (3) are projected on a foundation (1) of the gravestone (7), the upper end (3a) of each of the shock absorbing means is fixed to the lower surface of the gravestone in such a state that there are spaces (13) between the lower surface (7a) of the gravestone and the upper surface (la) of the foundation and between the lower surface of the gravestone and the side of the shock absorbing means, the shock absorbing means forms an approximately truncated cone body (15) of an elastic member such as rubber or the like, the top board (22) and the bottom plate (24) are respectively fixed to the upper end and the lower end of the approximately truncated cone body, a spring (17) is fixed between the top board and the bottom plate in the approximately truncated cone body, at the same time, a horizontal plate (19) is fixed inside of the approximately truncated cone body, an open hole (21) corresponding to the spring is formed in the horizontal plate and that the spring is inserted into the open hole in the horizontal plate.
