PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize the position of a light-emitting element, even in a narrow sight field, with no energization to the light-emitting element. SOLUTION: The light-emitting element position-recognizing method is provided for an optical system, which comprises a light-emitting element mounted on a stem and a beam erecting mirror, which erects the light beam from the light-emitting element; the vicinity of the beam-erecting mirror mounted on the stem is imaged; the difference in brightness between the reflected light from the stem, as well as the infiltration of light around the beam erecting mirror and the reflected light from the reflecting surface of the beam erecting mirror is utilized to binarize the image which is imaged; the reflecting surface of the beam erecting mirror is extracted from the binarized image; and the position of the stem or imaging device is adjusted, so that the gravitational center of the reflecting surface agrees with the center of the image, for searching the position of the light-emitting element within the imaged screen.
