PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acrylic acid (salt) polymer which has a low molecular weight and, simultaneously, a narrow molecular weight distribution and exhibits excellent dispersibility or has a high molecular weight and, simultaneously, a high solubility to water, a manufacturing method capable of easily obtaining the polymer, and an acrylic acid (salt) polymer composition using this polymer. SOLUTION: The acrylic acid (salt) polymer has >=1 wt.% portion of the whole polymer which is composed of an acrylic acid (salt) polymer having a specific structure at the terminal. Further, the method for manufacturing an acrylic acid (salt) polymer uses >=10 wt.%, based on the total monomer components, acrylic acid (salt) containing 200-400 wt. ppm furfural as at least part of acrylic acid (salt) in polymerizing the monomer components containing the acrylic acid (salt).
