PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a checkout system capable of sufficiently performing the communication with a customer to improve services and reducing an operator's load in a commodity selling work to improve the workability. SOLUTION: In this system, a scanning unit 3 having a code reader 5 for reading a code symbol and a payment unit 4 for performing the payment related to a commodity read by the scanning unit 3 are raised in line along the flow of the commodity selling work in a position closer to customer side of a sucker table 2. Basket passing parts 11a and 11b capable of passing a basket while its upper part is opened are formed between the scanning unit 3 and payment unit 4 and the operator-side edge of the load receiving face 2a of the sucker table 2.
