PURPOSE: Provided is a method for preparing a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas generated from car by which provided catalyst is able to completely burn particulate matter at a low temperature. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of (a) dissolving 8-10 wt.% of copper nitrate or vanadium chloride based on total weight of a carrier in distilled water to prepare an aqueous solution of copper nitrate or vanadium chloride; (b) after mixing the aqueous solution of the step (a) with the carrier, removing distilled water therefrom to obtain the carrier powder; (c) sintering the powder at a temperature of 500-600 °C for 2-3 hours to prepare a carrier material where a copper or a vanadium oxide is supported on the surface; (d) dissolving a complex compound of precious metal selected from platinum, palladium, silver or rhodium in ethanol to prepare a precious metal salt solution; and (e) after putting the carrier material obtained from the step (c) in the precious metal salt solution and drying, sintering it for 1-2 hours to prepare a catalyst where the precious metal is supported in pores of the carrier.
