PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic image pickup device using a CCD image sensor of a million-pixel class capable of displaying a motion picture in a driving frequency lower than or equal with 20 MHz. SOLUTION: An interline type CCD image sensor having pixels exceeding one million has color filters of a Bayer array suited to read all pixels by line sequential scanning. The CCD image sensor is ordinarily driven in a high speed mode and is driven in a high picture quality mode only when a trigger is depressed. In the high speed mode, the CCD image sensor adds and outputs two line pixel signals for every vertical three lines. While the CCD image sensor is driven in the high speed mode, images are displayed on a liquid crystal display part in a frame rate of 60 /sec. and the images are recognized as a moving picture for human eyes.
