PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed change gear which can be operated lightly and which can prevent the increase in size and cost even if it is of the output-shaft side reduction mechanism type. SOLUTION: The speed change gear 1 includes an input shaft 2, an output shaft 3, a first countershaft 4 arranged in parallel with the input shaft 2 and the output shaft 3, a speed reduction gear 5 which is arranged between the output shaft 3 and the first countershaft 4 so as to always mesh with the output shaft 3 and the first countershaft 4, and a plurality of pairs of speed changing gears which are provided between the input shaft 2 and the first countershaft 4 or the output shaft 3 and which mesh with each other so as to transmit the rotational force of the input shaft 2 to the output shaft 3. The speed change gear 1 is provided with an input gear 25 fixedly provided on the input shaft 2, a second countershaft 9 arranged in parallel with the input shaft 2, a second countershaft gear 12 which meshes with the input gear 25 and is provided on the second countershaft 9, and a brake mechanism 26 for braking the input shaft 2 by braking the second countershaft gear 12.
