PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an individual authentication system and method enabling rapid and precise authentication without retaining collation data on a device which makes comparison and collation. SOLUTION: The individual authentication system 10 authenticates individuals according to users' biological information such as fingerprints and includes a sending device 100 which each user wears, and a collation device 110 which collates the biological information. Both of the devices cause an electric field based on information to be sent to be induced in a living body that is a field transmitting medium, and transmit and receive the biological information by using transceivers 3 to detect the electric field and transmit and receive the information. The sending device 100 retains the users' previously registered biological data (hereinafter referred to as registered data) and sends the registered data to the collation device 110 via the transceiver 3a during authentication.
