PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable easy skipping to and reproducing (cuing from such a scene and reproducing it) of an important scene in which BGM often plays or which is a climax in the program, by easily and simply searching for such a scene. SOLUTION: In a video recorder for recording a TV broadcast program in a recording medium such as DVD or HDD, a BGM detecting means is provided for detecting an audio signal as a BGM from a voice signal included in a received TV signal and also detecting a change in the voice signal when the BGM is switched. Data (e.g., time data) indicative of a time at which the BGM start to plays is also stored together with the received TV signal in the recording medium. The start of BGM playing and switching of the BGM are automatically detected and data indicative of the fact is automatically stored in the recording medium. Consequently, the user can easily and simply search for an important scene in which the BGM often plays or which is a climax in the program, and can easily skip the program to such a scene and reproduce it (cuing from the scene and reproduce it).
