PURPOSE: A display device is provided to dispose a particle use promotion unit for preventing the number of particles which contribute to a display function from being reduced, in a space where particle groups move. CONSTITUTION: A lower substrate(6) includes the first electrode(2), while an upper substrate(16) includes the second electrode(12). Spaces(17) between both substrates(6,16) are divided in every pixel(100) by partitions(3). Black particles(5B) and while particles(5A) are sealed in the spaces(17). The third electrode(4) is disposed in the partitions(3) of each pixel(100). During a display operation, a signal voltage is applied between the first and second electrodes(2,12) to generate an alternating electric field, so that the black particles(5B) move between the electrodes(2,12). To remove the black particles(5B) attached to the partitions(3), voltages are applied between the first electrode(2) or the second electrode(12) and the third electrode(4) to generate an electric field.
