PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION FOR PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF LIVER CELLS OR LIVER DISEASE, CONTAINING FUCOSTEROL SEPARATED FROM PELVETIA SILIQUOSA EXTRACT

PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing fucosterol separated from Pelvetia siliquosa extract exhibiting liver-protecting activity is provided. The fucosterol increases antioxidant enzyme activity such as SOD, catalase and GSH-px while reducing sGOT and sGPT and thus can be used as a pharmaceutical composition for prevention and treatment of liver cells or liver disease. CONSTITUTION: The pharmaceutical composition contains 0.01 to 50% by weight of fucosterol separated from Pelvetia siliquosa extract, based on the total weight of the pharmaceutical composition as an effective ingredient. It exhibits liver-protecting activity such as prevention and treatment of virus-induced alcoholic fatty liver, chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and hepatoma. For an example, 100mg fucosterol is mixed with 50mg lactose, 50mg starch, 2mg talc and a suitable amount of magnesium stearate to give a capsule.
