PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid straining of a joint plane due to local deformation of an optical member in joining, and to put a width of a joint line within a permissible range without being affected by individual variation of the optical member.SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing an optical element includes manufacturing processes mentioned below. One of two optical members is moved relatively to the other so as to bring both the optical members into contact with each other (S2). One of the two optical members is moved relatively to the other from the position where the two optical members are brought into contact with each other, and the two optical members are arranged at joining positions where a predetermined gap to be at least secured between joined planes in joining is formed (S3).
