PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyurethane resin for coating a recording base material and a coating composition for coating a recording base material containing the same. SOLUTION: To provide a polyurethane resin for coating a recording base material which allows jetted ink, not only to infiltrate swiftly into, but also to fix stably on without spreading, various recording materials such as a fiber, paper, synthetic paper, a plastic film, and nonwoven fabric, and particularly improves the recording base material in water resistance and coloring; and a coating composition containing the resin.
