PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing a 4,4'-biphenylenediamine derivative which can be used as an organic electroluminescent element component, especially a hole transport material, to remarkably improve the light-emitting life of the organic electroluminescent element. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 4,4'-biphenylenediamine derivative represented by formula (III) comprises reacting a halogenated biphenyl with a biphenyl having protected amino groups at the 4, 4'-positions.
