PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of having higher resolution and effectively using incident light. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus which outputs a video signal by picking up a subject image formed through an imaging optical system 110 is equipped with a light beam shift section 200 which converts two light beams from the subject image formed by the imaging optical system into light beams having mutually orthogonal polarization directions by shifting one light beam and not shifting the other according to the polarization directions, a light beam separation section 410 which separates the light beams from the light beam shift parts to two optical paths according to the polarization directions, and two imaging sections 431 and 432 which pick up images of the light beams separated by the light beam separation part to the two optical paths.
