[PROBLEMS] A compact vibration damping material achieving high damping performance and capable of also improving rigidity. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] Thin metallic layers (8) and thin damping layers (9) are alternately piled to form a vibration damping material (6), and the overall thickness of the vibration damping material (6) is set not more than 1 mm. Since there are plural interfaces between the metallic layers (8) and the thin damping layers (9), vibration energy becomes to be easily converted to friction energy to produce a large damping force. Further, since the overall thickness is 1 mm or less, the amount of deformation of the vibration damping material (6) caused by a shearing force can be made smaller, so that the rigidity of the vibration damping material (6) can be increased. |
