PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift control device for an automatic transmission capable of setting a sufficiently long time as requested by a driver when a down shift is instructed during D-range travel by the manual operation of the driver. SOLUTION: The shift control device for the automatic transmission has an automatic shift mode for performing shifting operation in accordance with a first shift property where a shift stage or a gear ratio to be set is set depending on a traveling state, and a manual shift mode for performing shifting operation instructed by the manual operation of the driver. The device comprises a shift property changing means for changing the first shift property into a second shift property where a region for a shift signal for an up-shift to be outputted is biased to the side of a higher vehicle speed after shifting operation with the down-shift instructed by the manual operation of the driver, and a delaying means for delaying the output of the shift signal for the up-shift by a predetermined delay time in accordance with the traveling state of a vehicle when the vehicle is in such a traveling state as to output the shift signal for the up-shift in-accordance with the second shift property.
