METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR VIDEO ENCODING AND DECODING

A method and an apparatus for video encoding and decoding are provided to improve the image quality of other blocks that refer to a big skip block that has possibility to be used as reference data and increase the entire PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) of an image. A method for video encoding and decoding comprises the steps of: determining a prediction mode of a current block by performing a motion estimation for the encoded current block(410); judging whether or not the estimation mode of the block near the current if the estimation mode of the determined current block is a skip mode(420); encoding a residual that is a difference value between the current block and the estimated block of the current block(440); and adding the residual information to the bitstream of which image is encoded(450).
