1361662 Pipe couplings YAMAMOTO SANGYO KK 16 Sept 1971 [18 Sept 1970] 43146/71 Heading F2G Pipes 1, 2 are connected together at any angle between 90 degrees and 180 degrees by a coupling comprising two generally hemispherical parts 3, 4 each having a portion for connection to the other part and a cylindrical collar for connection to a pipe. As shown, the pipe ends and the connecting portions of the parts 3, 4 have flanges such as at 1a, 3a, 3b. Respective pairs of flanges are connected by a flexible coupling band member 5 having an interengaging pin (5a) (Fig. 3, not shown) and slot (5b) at opposite ends together with holes (11) which receive a bolt 6 and a nut 7 to tighten the band 5 around the flanges. The coupling band 5 is fitted over a resilient packing 9, e.g. of rubber or plastics, in which steel balls 8 are evenly embedded, and having a cover-plate 10 of stainless steel or other metal. Before finally tightening the nut 7, the coupling parts 3, 4 may be turned so that the collars face the pipe ends to be coupled, the packing 9 and cover-plate 10 being placed in position before the band 5 is applied round the flanges. |
