1327838 Mixing in conduits AGFA-GEVAERT AG 19 April 1971 [12 March 1970] 23800/71 Heading B1C Suspensions, e.g. those containing a silver halide may be made in an apparatus (Fig. 2, not shown) comprising a plurality of alternate rigid and flexible curved tubular elements 10, 15 each having an inlet valve 3 for an additive, each valve having an annular gap S transverse to the main flow A in the tubular elements and being carried by an inlet pipe 21 which is axially vibrated by a generator 4 so that the valve vibrates substantially axially of the conduit. There may also be straight tubular elements. The additives are supplied by metering pumps; the inlet pipes 21 are sealed to the conduit walls by rubber diaphragms 12 and carry stirrer discs 5 having flared perforations 51. The tubular elements may have a heat exchange jacket or electric heating system as at 17, 18 respectively. The pump pressure and valve characteristics may be chosen so that the additives are injected in pulses.
