<p>1513818 Sulphur from H 2 S SOC NATIONALE DES PETROLES D'AQUITAINE 11 July 1975 [11 July 1974] 29249/75 Heading C1A A method of preparing sulphur from an acid gas containing hydrogen sulphide comprises introducing a mixture of air and acid gas into a combustion furnace so that 1/3rd of the hydrogen sulphide present is converted into sulphur dioxide, and then reacting the sulphur dioxide with the remaining hydrogen sulphide in a catalytic converter to obtain elemental sulphur, wherein the acid-gas and air are pre-heated to a temperature sufficient to ensure that the temperature within the combustion furnace is within the range 1070‹C. to 1370‹C. The hydrogen-sulphide concentration in the acid gas is, as a preliminary step, increased to 40-60%, or more preferably to 90%, of the acid-gas content by extracting from the acid gas other non-reactive diluents, chiefly carbon dioxide.</p> |
