<p>The suction element for a vacuum cleaner comprises a fixed plate (14) bearing a sole and a movable plate (22) bearing a brush and being capable of moving between a lowered position in which the brush projects downwards and a raised position in which the sole projects downwards with respect to the brush, a connection crank (26) between these plates, an elastic return device (48, 50) arranged between the plates and capable of occupying two positions of use on either side of an unstable intermediate position. In addition, a device for lifting up the movable plate (22) is provided, comprising two levers (58) which bear on the fixed plate (14) and one end (62) of which is engaged with a pin (32) connected to the crank (26) while their free end (64) forms a control button which, when pushed down, causes the pin (32) to be raised.
