1,234,075. Bonded fibre article, lap forming. apparatus. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. 10 May, 1968 [11 May, 1967; 12 May, 1967; 18 April, 1968], No. 22271/68. Headings D1N and D1R. [Also in Divisions B8 and Cl] A mineral fibre mat is made by moving a stream of mineral, e.g. glass, fibres to a collecting means, causing a sheet of solid particles to flow homogeneously and at a constant rate (over surface 136), projecting the particles of the sheet into the stream of fibres by a gaseous current (issuing from slot 140) to homogeneously distribute the particles in the stream before it reaches the collecting means, spraying a thermosetting binding agent onto the fibres and/or particles before they reach the collecting means, and reducing the volume of the collected mass of fibres whereby the particles are homogeneously distributed therein on setting of the binder. The binder, e.g. phenol formaldehyde resin, can be sprayed onto the particles before they reach the fibre stream. The particles can be perlite, vermiculite, sand, ground glass, pulverised rock or pulverised slag. The particles can be passed along a rectilinear conveyordistributor and down chutes (as shown), or through an annular screw feed conveyordistributor (Figs. 14 and 15), before meeting an annular frusto-conical surface to form the sheet of flowing particles. The fibre-particle stream may pass through an oscillatable duct 144 and be collected on a conveyor subjected to suction. |
