The safety valve has a cylindrical housing (1) contg. a closure member (4) spring-loaded (6) onto a seat (3) against the direction of flow (PR) and a stop to limit the lift of the member. The stop is formed by a disc (13) with outwardly projecting prongs (13a) which is secured to the member. The prongs extend into an annular groove (14) provided in the inner housing wall (15), the upper side wall of the groove defining max. valve lift whilst the lower side wall allows full valve closure. The stop disc may be located between the spring support disc (5) and the spring.
