The surface to be hardened is passed before an energy source causing the second fusion while maintaining constant, at least approximately, the value of the conducted energy with respect to the volume of the part to be remelted. This can be obtained by controlling the output of the energy source according to the radius of curvature. In a device for the hardening by second melting of cames of came shaft (3) by means of an electric arc, the output power of a generator (21) is consequently controlled by means of a control circuit (20) or a switch.
