PURPOSE:To provide high retention power by surface-treating powdery particles of rare earth metals containing transition metals, particularly by controlling the interfacial state between the interior of the particle and an outer layer, further between adjacent particles. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a magnetic compound particle of RMz (R: one or more of rare earth elements; M: Co or alloy comprised mainly of Co; and z is 6.5... 8.8) is coated with one or more non-magnetic metal or alloy layers. By surface- treating this particle, particularly the interfacial state between the interior of the particle and the outer layer, further between adjacent particles is controlled. In this way, high retention power is attained. |
