A forked chain hook (1) is used to attach a chain end (3) to a chain link (2a) on a second chain (2) which is under tension. One end on the offset chain hook is forked vertically for the location of a chain link (3) by a cross bolt. (6). The other hook end (7) has a location slot (8) for a vertical chain link (2a). It is also provided with a semi-circular pair of grooves (10) into which the horizontal chain link (2b) fits. A cross bolt (14) secures the hook (1) to the chain (2).
