The title polymers, useful for prepn. of contact lenses, are made by copolymn. of 100 cellulose acetylate copolymer and 50 monomer selected from methacrylic acid ester, hydroxyethylmethacrylate, ethyleneglycoldimethacrylate, polyvinylpyrrolidone, and styrene acrylate with 0.1 wt.% azobisisobutylonitryl or benzoylperoxide at 20-120≦̸C in inactive gas. The O permeability of the product was 3.15×100-10(ml O2/mlxmmHg) at 30≦̸C, where that of conventional PMMA was 0.02×10-10.
