Porous metal battery electrode - with active material impregnated in the pores

Battery electrode has a plaque of sponge-like porous metal matrix (1) containing a multiplicity of cells (2) connected with each other three-dimensionally. The sectional area of the gratings forming the plaque is reduced continuously in the thickness of the plaque from the surface to the centre thereof and an active material is impregnated in the plaque. Sectional area of the grating near the surface is pref. between 1 and 5 times the area of the grating at the central part. Provides a battery electrode with a high density of active material which is produced at low cost.
