Automatic closure nozzle for a collapsible container opens to discharge the contents of the container when squeezed and closes to seal the contents upon cessation of squeeze pressure. The inventive concept is particularly useful in connection with containers holding toothpaste, cosmetics, food products and a variety of liquid and semi-liquid products. The inventive concept includes a self sealing nozzle (10) for a squeeze-type container (11) composed of a pliable material which includes a flexible cap portion (12) terminating at one end so as to define a discharge opening (17) therein. The cap portion hingably mounts an inner (15) and an outer (13) seals, both of which have a plurality of stiff, triangularly shaped sections (20) and coaxially disposed in spaced apart relationship. Each section in the respective inner and outer seals overlap to form a sealed closure in a first position and fully open in a second position to permit discharge of container contents (14) through the discharge opening (17). An accordion spring (21) is operably disposed between the container at one end and to the cap portion (12) mid-way between the inner and outer seals whereby expansion of the spring under squeeze pressure actuates the seals to their second position and release of pressure contracts the spring to return the seals to their first position. |
