PURPOSE:To produce stainless steel for cutlery inexpensively and easily by subjecting a plate material of stainless steel contg. a specific amt. of Cr or less than specific thicknesses to a carburization treatment at specific temps. CONSTITUTION:Martensite or ferrite stainless steel contg. 11-20% Cr is worked to <=3mm. plate thickness to improve the efficiency of the next carburization treatment. This stainless steel plate is subjected to a carburization treatment at 800-1,050 deg.C in an atmosphere of, for example, gaseous CO and gaseous Ar. Better effect is obtained if it is diffusion-annealed in an atmosphere preventing decarburization, for example, in a gaseous Ar atmosphere, in order to diffuse carbon further uniformly after the carburization treatment. |
