Capsules contg. doxycycline - in form of granules have reduced tendency to cause intestinal bleeding

Capsules filled with doxycycline-contg. granules are claimed. Also claimed is the prodn. of such capsules by (a) forming granules with a particle size of 0.5-0.65 mm from excipients or carriers, (b) spraying the granules with a homogeneous mixt. of doxycycline (I), polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), and acetone, (c) coating the granules with 'Eudragit E' lacquer, (d) drying the granules, and (e) filling capsules with the dried granules. The granules are pref. formed by spraying sucrose crystals with 0.12:0.59:0.29 mixt. of water, sucrose and corn starch at 80 deg.C. The ratio of (I) to granules is esp. 0.71. The capsules have less tendency to cause intestinal bleeding than conventional formulations and overcome the problem of premature dissolution of (I). (Fl).
