PURPOSE:To obtain a discharge lamp having high efficiency and no flickering of flux by lighting a discharge lamp encapsulated with rare gas and mercury vapor generating material with frequency higher than 1kHz while specifying the voltage waveform to be applied, composition of mixture gas and discharge current. CONSTITUTION:A discharge lamp encapsulated with rare gas and mercury vapor generating material is lighted through a high frequency lighting system higher than 1kHz where the rising/falling of voltage waveform to be applied between electrodes when lighting a discharge lamp is shorter than 2muS while having duty factor of 15-85%. Mixture of Kr and Ar is encapsulated where partial pressure of Ar and Kr against the entire pressure X of mixture gas is X1, X2 respectively. Composition is set to satisfy formula I in the region where the neutral atomic temperature Y is such that 5<=Y<=60, 0.3<=X1<=5, 0.3<=X2<=5. Assuming the temperature to be given by formula I is Tc, O-peak value of discharge current is set in the range of formula II-IV in accordance to temperature Y resulting in elimination of flux fluctuation and high efficiency. |
