PURPOSE:To improve the quality of a picture by deciding the high resolution information and high gradation information of input picture information so as to apply a separate intermediate tone reproducing processing. CONSTITUTION:The picture data transmitted from a picture input source 1 is stored for N-line's share to a line memory 3A, a switch SW2A is changed over and the next N-line's share is written in a line memory 3B. When the SW2A is accessed to the memory 3A, the SW2B is accessed to a memory 3B. The SW2B transfers an MXN picture element data to a block memory 4. A discriminating device 5 discriminates the information as information in a high resolution region when picture density gradient in the NXM picure elements is larger than a prescribed value, and discriminates the information as information in a gradation region when the gradient is smaller than the prescribed value. When the information is discriminated as being in the high resolution region, the picture element in the memory 4 is modulated 7 analogically into a pulse width modulation or the like in response to the density of picture element via an SW6 and transmitted to a recording section. When the information is discriminated as being in the gradation region, the picture element data is converted digitally into a binary recording signal at a binary intermediate tone circuit 8 and transmitted to the recording section. |
