CONNECTING METHOD OF MULTICORE OPTICAL FIBER CORE

PURPOSE:To connect multicore optical fibers with each other even when bare fibers after being cut have variance in length by inserting connection terminal parts of the optical fibers into the through hole of a glass member in facing relation, and connecting them by fusion. CONSTITUTION:The glass member 15 made of a glass pipe is placed along the V-shaped groove 10 of a V-groove base 11, and the bare fibers 17a and 17b after clads are removed from tape optical fibers 16a and 16b are mounted along V- shaped grooves 13 of V-groove bases 14a and 14b for fibers; and the tape optical fibers 16a and 16b are put closely to each other, and the parts of the bare fibers 17a and 17b are so inserted into the through hole 15' of the glass member that their end surfaces face each other. Then, the glass member 15 and bare fibers 17a and 17b are connected together by fusion in arc discharge between a couple of electrodes 18a and 18b.
