PURPOSE:To form exactly and easily a sintered layer having a desired shape on the surface of a metallic base body in the stage of forming a sintered layer consisting of a powder metal on the surface of the base body by providing a projecting part to the central part of the base body surface and using a specifically shaped positioning jig. CONSTITUTION:A sheet 7 formed by kneading <=60 mesh powder of a Cn-Mo steel or the like and a resin as a binder is adhered to the surface 2 of the metallic base body 3 for the purpose of forming the sintered metal having the resistance to wear, heat, oxidation, etc. The projecting part 4 is preliminarily formed to the center of the surface 5 of the body 3 and the body 3 is set into the ceramic positioning jig 1 provided with a half surface 5 which is the tentative bearing part of the powder alloy sheet 7 and a side face 6 in this case. The assembly is heated to evaporate the resin binder and to form the sintered layer 8 consisting of the Cr-Mo steel powder. The projecting part on the base body surface acts as the center for the shrinkage of the sheet 7 in the stage of sintering and the sintered metallic layer 8 is formed exactly in the desired position.
