Novel heterocyclic compounds of the general formula(I):

in which each of R1, R2, R4 and R5 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group and R3 is a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, alkenyl, alkenyloxy, aryl, aryloxy, acyl or nitro group, and the broken line indicates that a single or double bond is present in the position shown; provided that when the broken line is a single bond, R3 is other than hydrogen, have antiiflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic action. The compounds may be included in pharmaceutical compositions for treating inflammation, fever or pain.
The compounds are made by reacting a compound of the general formula(II):

with a compound of the general formula (III):

and heating the resulting product, followed if necessary by reduction, hydrolysis or salt formation.
